I had a similar issue... I ended up realizing that Mint takes care of mounting shares in your home folder...

There should be a "network" folder in your home folder. Go ahead and point Amarok there and it should work. At least it does for me.

Hey there,

I have the same prob as first told.
While opening a file from a smb-share (on a ms windows 2000 server) amarok came up with the error "no input plugin to handle..."

I made a connection with nautilus: File-> Connect to server ->
Servicetype -> windows share
Servername -> IP-Adress of server (e.g. 192.168.1.100)
Share -> Sharename
Username -> (administrator-account on the server)
Name to use for the connection -> test

I tried to browse the files through nautilus:
home/network/<workgroup>/<host>/<share>
But here i get the error:

" The folder contents could not be displayed.
You do not have the permissions necessary
to view the contents of "<share>"."

The File "Network" under my home has permissions for root xwr, for the current user only x-r might this be the problem?
If I right-click on the network-share in nautilus I can't change the permissions for my account (because the pull-down-menu is greyed out)...

The aim would be to open files from the windows-share directly without copy them first on the linuxdesktop (or homedrive in linux).

Is there anyone around who may help me with this issue?
What am I doing wrong?

Cheers,
The total newbie...
