Can't install Mint Linux 12 on Asus U46E-BAL7

Post by beagle10 »

I got a new Asus U46E-BAL7 laptop with windows7 preinstalled. (14" monitor; intel i7, 750gb HD, 8gb RAM)
I am trying make a clean install of Linux mint 12.
Problem: it doesn't go beyond starting screen. Can't get even live boot to work.
On a related note, after several try I have managed to install Ubuntu. But ubuntu boot doesn't go beyond Grub screen.
Appears to be some sort of video driver issue.
I am reasonably familiar with Linux and Mint in particular; have neen using linux OS for several years and Mint for about 2 years.

Thanks for any help,

Replaced quiet splash -' with 'nomodeset -'.
Went on to run live CD; installed Mint linux 12.
Now, as with Ubuntu, the boot stops in Grub screen.

I looked at the grub command lines for Mint generic :

setparams 'Linux Mint 12 64-bit, 3.0.0-12-generic (/dev/sda1)'

recordfail
set gfxpayload=$linux_gfx_mode
insmod gzio
insmod part_msdos
insmod ext2
set root='(hd0, msdos1)'
search --mno-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root a6f.....-....-....-....-.........f36
linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-12-generic root=UUID=a6f.....-....-....-....-.........f36 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7
initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-12-generic

Even if I change 'quiet splash' to 'nomodeset'.
In the safe mode, I get a blank screen.
If I select 'recovery mode' in Grub, the boot reaches 'Booting Node 0, Processors #1, #2
and then hangs.

Requesting further help.

...
And so on until #6 then stops completely

I got Intel i7 2700K Processor. It works OK with Windows and Ubuntu
Please help!

I got Mint 14 MATE working on the U46E. Pretty straight forward and easy install. Im currently working on the boot parameters to make the boot process flawless.

You have new computer,so load mirror live DVD Mint 14.1 Cinnamon ,or some other new.
Test run from DVD,if it works install. You can test all movies from usb,or hard drive and look network ok.
If don't start from DVD,look bios setting from some F buttom like F1,F8,F10,maybe other too.Allow DVD start and save on bios settings.
After this test again with DVD start.
Some new computers are made so that it's harder .
I hope this help can help.

After switching to other distro for over a year, decided to try Linux Mint again.
On Nov 25, downloaded a live DVD of 16RC; live version worked very well.
Yesterday, I downloaded the stable Linux Mint 16 Petra and I am having the same old problem; with the live DVD, just a blank screen appears.

Although i dont love this linux disro, cause her main developer is anti jewish and and anti israel, i would give you the answer!

I also have this lap and i had the same problem! till i'v seen the answer in the askubuntu by Gustavo Garcia

Just do this change:

-- disable VT-d in BIOS --

This will do the Job. as simple as that.
