Mintinstall just sits there

Hi. I just installed Mint Elyssa Fluxbox Ed and everything works great except for MintInstall. When I start it from the menu, it has buttons for browsing the online repos. It takes me to the online repos. When I click *install now* button a dialog comes up that some-software.mint is a tar file, how to handle it, and at first it didn't even give me the choice for mintinstall; I had to choose *other* and manually add mintinstall to the dialog choices. Then when I choose mintinstall, nothing happens.

The mintinstall app itself shows no software available or any other buttons; just the buttons to browse online repos, as I explained, with little positive result.

It's not a breaker for me, because I know how to use apt-get to install programs. I was just curious if I'm doing something wrong or perhaps mintinstall is broken, and if so, how to fix?

I think this is a problem of faulty file associations
Your system has lost track of what to do with .mint files and/or what mintInstall is
