Tuxguitar might be a good item to add

I checked the existing Mint/Ubuntu repositories, and TuxGuitar is not found by a search on Synaptic.

i haven't got to use it yet, but if its ability to play Power Tab files is good, then that would be one of the major barriers for guitarists moving from Windows. (I'm such a beginner with Wine that I can't figure out running Power Tab Editor with Wine.)

Click on the Ubuntu Package link and open with GDebi to install.
Enter password and click install, then it should be in the menu.
