Well I've tried installing Linux Mint Gnome version but when I place the CD in and select Start Linux it will go to a command prompt kind of screen telling me to type "Help" for a list of commands and none of them seem to take me to the live desktop or even give me an option to install.
And also is there a way to install GRUB to the Linux partition so my Windows boot record remains un-touched? So I set the Linux drive as first boot it will read the GRUB loader and ask me if I want to boot windows or Linux?

Re: Installing...
Have you tried compatibility mode? (Any key when the live CD counts down and then select it)
You can install grub to the partition you install Mint in, but then you have to use the Windows boot loader to start Mint
