Eee PC users of Mint 5 XFCE CE?

Post by JimC »

The press releases about this distro look very interesting (especially the parts about lower resource requirements), with configuration options that should make it easier for new users migrating to linux, with lots of available software in repositories.

Has anyone tried this latest release on an Eee PC yet? If so, would you tell us what works and what doesn't (suspend, etc.) and what model you're using?

I've got a little Eee PC 900 (older CPU type versus the newer Atom, with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of SSD space) that I haven't tried anything other than the preinstalled Xandros based distro on yet. So, I'm curious what the alternatives are for a more featured distro on this type of hardware that could strike a good balance between available software, performance, etc.

I'm downloading the .iso for this newer edition now and plan on trying it on my desktop for starters.

Not sure how well it will work and they say changing the font to 96dpi helps with font size.
Here is documentation for installing Ubuntu. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EeePC
After installing XFCE Mint you will have to do the same to fix hardware: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EeePC/Fixes
