Make a database of groups

Postby Logos2.0 on Fri Sep 19, 2008 9:27 am

So, usualy my ideas go unnoticed but I hope this interest you.

I have found something wrong on our community. Our organisation is a bit weak. As example, I need to cross the forum to understand who work on the Debian version, who do artworks etc. It's not I want change the teams, just we can create a database of team with the name (or nickname), of every persons work on.

As simple exemple, a french user of LinuxMint who is working on the translation of Mint. He send an email to Clem about is work, and learn that an other team is already working on this project!! :?

Ok, it's stupid, but please think about my idea. The goal of this database is not to create a bling bling and complicated system like the Debian or Gentoo, but just to know who is working on the same project of you; who can be interested about your new project, meet people working on a project linked with your. Their will be no hierarchy but I think is at Clem and main developers to take important decisions (for some reason, and as example, if something that a member of graphists would do something impossible or something bad for developers).

It's just an idea but that do things clearer for all community. This is an exemple of what we can do, all propositions are welcomes :

Developers : all peoples who work on programms, Mint's "skull".

Graphists : all peoples work on wallpapers, Mint's graphics, default theme, etc.

Builders : all peoples who building .mint packages.

Communicators : all peoples who are moderators on forum and IRC channel, organise events, install party, wok on the communication of each LinuxMint websites, peoples who have a blog, work on press, etc.

These groups allow their member to know each other and synchronyse their project. Imagine someone doing a .mint for a programm and ten other doing the same thing? They loose their time and it's going to be confusing.
I hope my project interest every Mint's users, I am waiting about your ideas and comments.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I like that idea, sounds very good. what about a translation group/team and in that group are the different countries represented?!

We can do this too, I had just present my idea for know if peoples like it. Every ideas are welcomes! Every team can be divided in sub-teams (in packages team, a team for audio softawares, an other for games, etc), but we need already to built these main groups.

So, at the moment we have :

-Developement team

-Communication team

-Translation team

-Graphics team

-Packages team

-Integration team (integration with Gnome, KDE, Enlightenment, etc...)

-Bugs reports team

If someone have an other idea write it. :D When we will have a nice list, we will submit it to Clem for he does a special section on the website to subscribe at a team, viuw the list of memebers of a team, etc. I will work on a fake website section to present it at you.

http://www.linuxmint.com/about.php
shane does the Fluxbox edition
BlahBlah_X is trying to make a mini CE.
No one really is working on a Debian CE but some have come up with a way to install the mint tools and artwork.
Anyone can do the artwork and the most popular usually gets to be put into the distro.

Ok but that seem much like an official team than my project of groups. I'd think more about a web page where everybody can register itself on one or more group.

I don't think that a larger project group structure is necessary. Mint is working as it is. If it ain't broke don't fix it, as they say.

The larger you make it the more egos get involved and then you'd end up just like Ubuntu... eeek!
