Hello everyone,
Hope this is the right place to post this, if not I am very sorry. Anyways I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and I would like to get a new motherboard for it. But I have no idea how to tell what type of motherboard I need to buy. I want a dual core but I also would like for it too fit in the box I have. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
James

Re: Motherboard ???
well dont know ho big is your case but if you are buying motherboard that will mean lots of other think do you know the specifications of your old one and how much you think on spending
Re: Motherboard ???
Not sure how big the case is either, do I just use a tape and get the inches? As for the spec's it's a 2.8 not sure past that. And not really sure how much I should spend. I am trying to figure out if it will be better to get a new mother board or just get a whole new tower. Since I will be running Mint I don't think I would need high numbers.

Re: Motherboard ???
Sometimes, Dell has been known to use proprietary motherboards and power supplies. so that might be a consideration for further research. With the prices on barebones units these days, that might be a cost-effective solution to get a motherboard/case/power supply combo for under $100 US.
Re: Motherboard ???
Nice little project. The 2400 seems like a straight forward box. I'm guessing mATX board size, you will most likely need a new power supply with a 24 pin power connector. If this box still has the original power supply I would recommend replacement anyway. You might have to leave out the plastic shroud as the new mb and processor should have a heatsink fan. Oh, if there are studs behind the old mb where the heatsink mounted be sure and pull those out as they could cause a short with the new mb they will be unnecessary. If you have anymore questions just ask.
