Wont let me install past the partition hard drive.

Post by lin3ski3r »

OK well on my laptop, its a fairly old one, it wont let me install from the live cd past the hard drive partition space. I get to that spot and it wont let me partition anything. nothing shows up on the list to partition. does it not recognize my hard drive?

This is something that I find puzzling and no good
The partitioning tool in Ubiquity does not work that well
You could probably use gparted from the live CD to partition (at least a swap and a partition for root)
You then choose manual partitioning and select the newly created partitions (right click > Edit)
This seems to help getting past that obstacle

Thanks for that tip - I haven't seen it before.
A brief study of it tells me it is something you should avoid as long as possible and restrict as much as possible - but also powerful...
