My Creative Zen seems to be quite happy with Mint. It takes a bit of work to persuade Mint to recognise it (unlike Windows, just plugging it in via USB won't work), but it then it's ok. I use Gnomad to transfer music and to edit the Zen's contents as it's much easier than using the Zen's erratic erase function.

Cowon, it supports open formats like ogg and haven't bought into the whole drm scam that the corporate entertainment world tried to foist onto us all to keep their buggy whip factories in business and their mafiosa style terrorist tactics alive. iRiver are worth a look at too.

How about an e260 Sansa? I tried to set the Sansa into USB mode, but it doesn't seem to work.
