HDD, Motherboard or Linux error? solved

Post by rhvkl »

Hi,

i've got another question ... I played (Guildwars), my PC hang up ... switched to the F1 view and took a screenshot.

Hardware:
P4 3 GHz
3GB RAM Corsair
250GB S-ATA Maxtor
P5AD2-E Premium Board

Can anyone please tell me where and why the error occures? I assume that's a HDD problem, isn't it?

...with other error msg:

Re: HDD, Motherboard or Linux error?

Seems that you hard disk is broken - it may be "just" logically but can be physically too
As you can come a bit into the boot process it's not entirely gone
Don't use it - I assume this post was written on another computer
Check your options for data recovery. If you can boot from another disk with that one connected photorec (rescues any kind of file) which is part of testdisk which you can find in Synaptic might be able to transfer your data to another disk

Hi Husse,

bootprocess ist quite normal ... is it the main drive (windows, swap, linux, home, ntfs-temp-partition) in your opinion? ... but away the post was written at the instable system because it is possible on one hand that it works for a week without any error and on the other hand it could happen, that the PC crashes 6 times in two houres.

In short: Linux works good, Windows works good, too ... but the system hangs up in irregular intervals (mostly while gaming) and I'm clueless right now.

Is it possible to provoke a replication of my error because my feeling says it's a motherboard problem and not a harddrive failure?

Ok I got the impression it halted at this and no more, but you manage to boot when this does not appear and it only appears at irregular intervals
If that's the case my bet is a hardware failure and probably not the disk....
Does this happen only at boot or does the computer crash into this at times?
A common problem is bad soldering and you get those errors normally when the motherboard or whatever becomes warm and the soldering point cracks open resulting in lost connection

hi husse,

thanks for your fast reply. It doesn't happen at bootload. It just occures during work / game ... in Linux as well as in Windows.
Solution: I think I change the mobo as a first instance and add another ventilator, because the hdd is relatively new.

Status: [to close] ... thanks husse.
