afraid of kernel 2.26.24-21 buggy update

Post by galen »

I've had four proper installs (ubunutu, xubuntu) on four machines that were killed by the latest kernel.
I've filled bug reports to no avail.
So I'm concerned that Mint users will get screwed by the latest update.

Please remove 2.26.24-21 from the repos ASAP until the bugs are addressed

Who told you to use that kernel?
It's a level 5 upgrade - one that we advice against
It's not in our repos but in the Ubuntu repos so we have no control over it

Strange... I have that .21 kernel on my main Ubuntu box, and one older Xubuntu PC... No issue... But on my Mint partition, I stick to level 3 update, so I am still with .19....

There has been reports of serious problems with 2.26.24-21
And when I write this I realize that I have written 2.26.21 instead of 2.26.24-21 on several occasions - damn :(

yes it is in ubuntu repos, so if one uses synaptic -21 pops up to be installed.
mintUpdate protects against bad recommended ubuntu packages and big kudos for that.
Should LinuxMint comes with synaptic somewhat disabled?

I don't think so
A) It's about freedom, including freedom to destroy your system
B) People will do such updates anyway
C) I'm not quite sure how to do it
