Reburned - good - but did you check the md5sum?
I have seen very few reports on install problems with this edition yet

I can't remember a percentage for the partitioner - do you mean general progress?

Re: mint 5 fluxbox cannot install
I've had exactly the same problem with the Mint installation hanging when it reaches 46% total progress for installation. I'm trying to install on an old Compaq Presario laptop (1200XL). It has Windows 98 on it currently. There is no data I need any longer on the drive, and obviously I could care less about Win 98. The machine boots fine from the CD and from the boot menu. I selected the option to install Mint and everything goes along fine until the progress counter reaches 46%. At that point, though the CD continues to spin, everything essentially freezes and after waiting, even hours, nothing more happens. Any idea on, or suggestions for, this issue would be appreciated!!
Re: mint 5 fluxbox cannot install
Hanging at 46% is new to me
Have you partitioned?
If my memory serves me right this is after partitioning
Can you tell us what the installer is doing at that stage?
There should be at least some clue, like copying files ...

Re: mint 5 fluxbox cannot install
No, I made no effort to do any partitioning beforehand and wasn't presented with an opportunity to partition during the failed install either. I booted the machine from the Mint CD and selected to option to install. There was general progress meter that got to 46% and then stalled. I waited several hours to see if it would continue on (this machine is about 8 years old after all), but no success. I suspect the machine just doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Mint. I'd like to include what the installer was doing, but I can't even get the machine to boot to the menu from the CD anymore. If i make any more progress, I'll post further. If anyone has an opinion about minimum system requirements for Mint 5, I'd love to hear it.Husse wrote:Hanging at 46% is new to me

Re: mint 5 fluxbox cannot install
To be sure I'd have to start an install, but I have a feeling partitioning is (way) before 46%
The minimum to install (the same as to run the live CD) is about 300 MB RAM (but then it will be slow) 10 GB disk space (absolute minimum about 5 GB) and at least a PIII processor or similar
If you have less RAM you can use Knoppix or some such very low resource Linux to create a swap partition and the live CD will use it
To run Mint the requirements are much lower, how much is depending on the edition
Fluxbox would probably run on about 100 MB

Re: mint 5 fluxbox cannot install
I'll take a look at this but as my installs have crashed at grub install (94%) if they ever crashed it's not easy...
Re: mint 5 fluxbox cannot install
I give up on this one - it is not possible to search for "install crashes at 46%" as the stupid google returns hits on every post that has been posted at a point in time with 46 seconds in it (like 23:58:46)
