Problem with booting Vista

Post by neggard »

Hello!
I am new to linux and need some help with my system.

I have use Vista for some month now and want to use linux so I choose linuxmint :)
On my hd there was vista so I shrink that partition so I could install mint.
After the installation mint works perfect but vista dont boot.

I run GParted and got this info.
/dev/sda1 ext3
/dev/sda2 extended
/dev/sda6 linux-swap
/dev/sda5 ntfs

This is my menu.lst file
## ## End Default Options ##

title Linux Mint x64, kernel 2.6.24-16-generic
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-16-generic root=/dev/sda1 ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-16-generic

title Linux Mint x64, kernel 2.6.24-16-generic (recovery mode)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-16-generic root=/dev/sda1 ro single
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-16-generic

title Linux Mint x64, kernel memtest86+
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/memtest86+.bin

### END DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST

# This is a divider, added to separate the menu items below from the Debian
# ones.
title Other operating systems:
root

# This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for a non-linux OS
# on /dev/sdb2
title Microsoft Windows Vista
root (hd0,4)
makeactive
chainloader +1
savedefault
map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)

The error I got when I try to start Vista is:
root (hd0,4)
Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7
makeactive
Error 12: Invalid device requested

How should I edit this file and do I need to do something else?

Before I start a long and complicated explanation (which seems to be needed from what I see) I want to make this clear
Is sda5 Vista?
I don't think so!
Vista should be sda1 and the there probably would be a recovery partition as sda2
What are sda3 and sda4
It's also very odd that there's mapping if Vista is on sda
Is this a laptop or a desktop?
More than one hard disk?

I have 2 disks in but both mint and vista are on same disk.
The second disk is just for store stuff on.

But maybe you dont need to help me....
I love mint and if I could use wine for some of my apps I dont need Vista anymore.

When I come home I can show you a screen of GParted if that will hwlp.
