More facts about the Thinkpad
I for sure won't hunt specs on the internet as I know these are generally unreliable
Run lspci in a terminal and post the result
You may want to use the RandR application - look for it in Synaptic

I just saw that - I hope you're discussing the VGA out, because if you want to use some S-video out I'm lost
You have the very common Mobile GM965/GL960 and there should be no problems with that

randr is a tool for this and a few other things
There is then Xrandr and Urandr which are Randr with a GUI
