Start the terminal and type "firefox". Go to yahoo maps and do the thing you said. Now if firefox closes read in the terminal if there are any errors.
It could be a flash error because many times firefox closes because of something with flash. You might wanna get Ad block plus add-on and use it on that yahoo site.
