Will this edition be Asus Eee PC friendly? I tried it earlier on my 1000h but it would not detect my wireless card. When I tried to install the inf file using the installer, it would not automatically detect available wireless networks. I did this all from the live cd without an install. Would a full install help with this matter?

Hey I just started using Mint, and i almost installed it, but I have two hard drives, one with about 3GB of space and one with about 20GB of space, and the partitioner was really confusing so i stopped… could a install tool more like the one with Ubuntu possibly be used in the new release?

The short answer is yes with an extra package from the repos. Have a read of the Wireless section for Intrepid on this page. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EeePC/Fixes

I assume you might mean WUBU. There are plans for a similar tool called WLMI for the final release, depending on the creative genius of Merlwiz79 :)

Thumbs up to the Mint team! I installed several hours ago and I've only found one potential bug!

Due to poor eyesight (I am legally blind) I use an 800x600 screen resolution on an old 19" CRT monitor which most people would find annoying. Anyway I've often had to manually edit xorg to get the proper resolution, but no problem here! Ever!

One oddity though - when I go to "Screen Resolution" either thru Control Center or the System menu I can easily select my ridiculous resolution, but with any resolution the refresh rate shows "0" - yes, ZERO! Which is obviously bogus!

Otherwise this seems very solid! Well one annoyance (which is also present in Ubuntu 8.10):

For some reason HPLIP dropped printer support for my Deskjet 5440 in 2.8.7, but it works with both 2.8.9 and 2.8.10! And you can use the auto-installer if you first apply the aptitude command in step 2.C here:

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/in ... xmint.html

The only other thing I'd make note of is that you can NOT remove mplayer without removing mint-meta-main which would break Mint so for people like me that prefer VLC, just change the defaults in Firefox - or just go ahead and install VLC, it tends to sort itself out for the most part.

Bottom line: BEST MINT EVER!

I'm not sure if this is the proper place for bug reports but I didn't find any other place to do it. I installed the RC1 on my laptop (Toshiba Tecra 9100) and found that it doesn't suspend or hibernate the computer. The laptop just has a blank screen. Also, the wireless connection (through an USB antenna) drops out after a few minutes of use. I have to reboot the computer to reconnect the wireless connection.

I also would like to use XFCE and am curious if that would solve either of the problems above.

It's still there but only the core package that runs from the command line. Hopefully a frontend will be in the final release.

Got a huge problem with bluetooth keyboard and mouse. This seems to be an underlying error with Ibex. Not yet fixed by ubuntu either. As I have no spare mice or keyboards this, for me is a real showstopper, don't know if Clem and the guys can do anything about it. Haven't been able to test further for obvious reasons but can anyone tell me if there are other problems with bluetooth in this mint release? Ibex has tons of issues with pairing devices and there are a plethora of bug reports posted.

Cheers

Simply ATM there is no GTK frontend for it, but you can install QT frontend (it's in the repos), it should work fine. That said due to new X there is no big choice of drivers atm.

Apparently they dropped the gtk version and it tells you to install the qt version.
The qt version is 100MBs more and you could just use envyng -t to install the driver.

WLMI works with a test iso, I just need to fix the *.po files to use the changes I made.
The grub-gfxboot and the grub-installer on the RC just won't set up menu.lst correctly.
I already have a package for grub-gfxboot that will work, and the grub-installer just needs replaced.

Just a short question. Will Felicia have an Live USB Creator like Ubuntu?

I'm new to Linux, currently using Ubuntu Intrepid but having a look at switching to Mint.
I'm on the 'trial' version of Felicia now, and I have to say it's great! Compiz works out of the box, as do online videos and my phone transfer cable (which had no chance on Ubuntu!).
It looks really nice and, though some people have been moaning, I love the artwork - it's new to me anyway :D

I think I'll be switching once the stable release comes! Good work Mint team :D

Hey there, got a big problem with the installation of Felicia RC1, when I Try the Live CD everything's fine, but when I install it, everything goes ok until it restarts, nothing happens and stays in a black screen with a lot of information that right now don't remember, and a Prompt.

Anyone else have experimented the same problem? Please Help!!!

Thanks.

You probably should post it in the bug thread, and what the prompts says might be an important info ;)

KDE?

Postby Baboon on Wed Nov 12, 2008 6:44 pm

will Mint 6 follow Intrepid's awful decision to retire KDE 3.5?

I'm a Gnome user, but have the KDE libraries installed, as I prefer some of the KDE software to the Gnome equivalents, e.g. K3B, AmaroK, Gwenview, Yakuake. But the KDE 4 ports of most of these are awful, just not ready yet.

I've tried Intrepid Ubuntu, it's nice, but this is the killer annoyance, KDE 3.5 apps aren't available at all.
