Great work Clem!

I found a bug that some others have also mentioned on this thread with the software properties, here is the output from the terminal:

[sudo] password for aechols:
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/apt/__init__.py:18: FutureWarning: apt API not stable yet
warnings.warn("apt API not stable yet", FutureWarning)
Traceback (most recent call last):

SoftwareProperties.__init__(self, options=options, datadir=datadir)
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/softwareproperties/SoftwareProperties.py", line 78, in __init__

File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/softwareproperties/SoftwareProperties.py", line 516, in reload_sourceslist

File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/aptsources/distro.py", line 85, in get_sources
"Error: could not find a distribution template")
aptsources.distro.NoDistroTemplateException

The things that I have tried are re-installing python2.5, re-installing python-apt, and checking the config files for software-properties-gtk. It seems to be an issue with python, even though the same bug says it's corrected in a Debian bug in python2.5-0.7.7, which is the version included in the Intrepid Ibex: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=487673. Hope this helps a bit. It would be nice to have a fix for this, not necessary as sources.list works just as well. But for the newer users who it would help, would be nice. Thanks for the hard work! Keep it up!

I might found a problem that Firefox 3.0 only on Mint doesn't export PDF files exactly.

For example, when Fx prints this page
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes
as PDF, the printed sentences in PDF are displayed like this...
"Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop Edition delivers the features you need for an inc reasingly
m obile digital life, inc luding 3G wireless support and guest sessions that lets users
tem porarily share c om puters without c om prom ising sec urity."

This is a Copy and Paste from the PDF. Somehow, there exist extra spaces in some words
("inc reasingly", "m obile", "c om puters", etc...).

This problem appears in Felicia and Elyssa (Xfce CE), not in Ubuntu 8.10.
It doesn't depend on its fonts. And other few applications work well
(I tested Inkscape and OOo writer).

Thanks.

Hi you all and congratulation

I have Intrepid on my system, but I wish to bring Mint always with me on a thumbdrive.
I did it using usb-creator *see my blog on this* http://marcobenatti.blogspot.com/2008/11/how-to-install-linux-mint-felicia-on.html

with this aim I noticed still two missing points

- Persistency (I believe playing with isolinux.cfg I can manage) needed for my wireless configuration and documents
- MOST IMPORTAN: LOCALIZATION. Every boot I have to setup the italian keyboard again and again

The rest is very good

I have been using Felicia RC1 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li1718 Laptop without any problems at all except one small but annoying one. It might not be a bug but every so often when I move the pointer using the touch pad the pointer will shoot off to another area of the screen. This might be something that compiz is causing. I agree with what a previous poster said that there should be a easy way to disable the compiz desktop effects or better still offer a choice , don't have them enabled by default but provide a way for them to be enabled from a mint menu or mint assist.

moose wrote:Not really "bugs", but I have a 1680x1050 monitor, and it appears the loading screen on boot with the progress bar is too small of an image. After about 1200x800 or so of the image being displayed, the rest around it is all black, so the thing doesn't fill up the whole screen. Also, when you click menu->shut down, all the buttons are big except for the restart button (using the Human Blue icon set).

I get the same. No a big bug, but would be a nice to have. I'm running a 20" tft (Philips 200W) at 1680 x 1050.

Can you also include the new Ubuntu theme (the dark one). And even the earth one? I know they're not Mint, but it's nice to have a bit of a selection, and those new themes are very good.

"Open as root" now uses Nautilus in root mode with a red background.

Works only in "pictogram" mode. I prefer "list" mode so I changed it and then there is no difference anymore between the "root" mode and the "user" mode look. I liked the Elyssa solution so why not leaving it that way. It is always very clear there that you have switched to root mode because it looks totally different.

[edit]
This appears to be an error in Ubuntu which is now fixed: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/256749
[/edit]

When accessing an internal (not jet mounted) IDE harddisk on my computer by going to 'computer' on my desktop and double clicking on one of the harddisk icons I get an error saying:

Code: Select all
Unable to mount location
Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume

And then nothing happens.

When clicking the same harddisk icon again it does open, without errors!

So far the only thing I found! It's looking great guys!

Would it be possible to include the new madwifi ath9k module? It includes support for a lot of Atheros cards such as the AR5007eg. I can add it myself after install, but have personally answered a ton of posts about getting Atheros cards working for Mint 5. Intrepid still has the ath5k module. Also with Mint 5, I could get my ar5007eg working on the live CD with ndiswrapper(Windows Wireless Tool) and the ar5007eg driver included on the CD. With Mint 6, when I install the driver and try to configure with windows wireless tool, I get an error saying it can't find a network configuration tool.

Somehow the menu is missing the 2nd and 3rd columns. I previously uninstalled Transmission, and the IRC app, then installed Wine-doors.
This is when I noticed I lost the menus.

I found my answer in this thread. http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=16333&p=99495&hilit=couldn+t+load+plugin+applications#p99495

My question is what permissions should I give the "Wine" folder and every thing inside? Is there a way to have the wine-doors installer do the correct permission?

Thanks,

Paul :)

I can't get my Edimax EW-7108PCg wifi card working with Mint 6. It uses the rt2500 driver. In Mint 5, it didn't work out of the box, but worked fine with the Windows driver. In Mint 6, it again doesn't work out of the box, and when I install the Windows driver it *looks* as though it's working (says it's connected, the lights on the card look fine) but it's not talking to the network. I can't even ping the router at 10.0.0.2. Oddly enough, my card works fine with Mint 5 Fluxbox, even without the Windows driver!

The Live Cd won't load. While Ubuntu 8.10 does. I've checked cd and it loads in virtual box.

whatever wrote:hey there,

long story short - i cannot start the system from liveCD

it looks like it's loading but it hangs with black wallpaper and busy cursor... i had similar problem with ibex but since on ubuntu's livecd there's an option to start installer without loading the full desktop i was able to install it and on first login i just couldn't load my gnome desktop;

i fixed that by switching to concole and simply removing compiz as it seems to cause problems with my graphics card (i was doing it all on Thinkpad X30) - more information here and here

but since mint livecd loads automatically to the desktop i'm unable to install it on my laptop - is there any way we can add an option to install system without loading gnome/compiz?

thanks

I had the same problem but saw a post by jerrylamos which gave me the answer. When the Live Cd is loading, wait until the progress bar has reached the end and then hit CTL-ALT-F1. This gives you a command line whereby you can remove Compiz and Compiz-core. This allows the live CD to load properly and an Install can be done from there in compatibility mode. The you can again remove Compiz and Compiz-core. Would it not be possible to make Compiz inactive during the Live CD and Install phases for those of us with older machines?

thanks for the tip hwebb1, indeed some sort of compatibility mode would be very helpful for people with older hardware; furthermore i don't think that compiz should be enabled by default...

I have tried both Ubuntu and Mint RC versions and there are a few annoying bugs present in both.

The Ubuntu installer will automatically set any additional partitions you create after / to be logical partitions instead of the default primary. It can be easily changed to primary but not everyone may catch it when doing their install ( assuming they want it to be a primary partition ). The same occurs with the Mint installer. Must be an ubiquity installer default.

Emerald theme manager will hang or stop responding. This happens when desktop effects are enabled and disabled.

There is also issues with webcams not working with many programs such as skype, amsn, kopete etc. Many of these applications are not compatible with v4l2 and the v4l1 compatibility layer doesn't get loaded as it should. A workaround that I found for this seemed to work ok with kopete. Just replace skype in the instructions with the application you are trying to use ( make sure the path to the binary is correct ).

$ sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/skype

and paste the following 2 lines
Code:

#!/bin/bash
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype

then make it executable
Code:

$ sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/skype

Installing lm-sensors will generate several read / write errors when installing. It completes and after running sensors-detect all seems to be working ok.

Not a bug but something that in my opinion affects the overall appearance of the OS is the new submenu indicators. With the default Mint theme and using the gnome menu bar ( not the mint menu ) the submenu indicators are ok but end up being huge with many themes. Try the Lightning theme if you want to see how large they get.

when it is maximised, i can click everywere and it does only one thing : move the window top or bottom

maybe it is a bug from the low resolution (1024*600)

when it is not maximised, it work normaly ^^

My wireless card (Netgear WG311 v2 TI chipset) is not recognized under network connections. With Ellysa the default wireless connection was listed and all I needed to connect was to provide the password.

Now in Felicia no wireless networks are detected.
