Just installed it to my lappy and as usual, the installation was faultless. Everything seems to be working as it should. I'm very impressed :)

I tried to install, but my monitor is giving me the message that the signal is beyond input range. Usually this means the refresh rate is incompatible. I tried xdriver=ATI and res=1440x900. I also tried it with xdriver=vga. Is there a way to force the refresh rate at boot?

Aside from the fact that I can't see anything, it appears to be booting to the desktop, because I am hearing the welcome music.

"No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found" on my system so no sound. Old IBM500mz. Mint 5 worked fine. Great otherwise. Love the network setup.

Hi guys,

Live CD is great thanks for all the hard work etc., but Ive got the problem where I have kept the same /home partition (that was used for FluxboxCE) and installed but now it looks like the GNOME config is messed up as there is no Mint menu, just the plain old Ubuntu panel at the top and workspace panel below...anyone know how I can get back to the default release look feel goodness?

TIA

KD :)

Did you try compatibility mode?
@ guest directly above
This is the downside of having home on a separate partition
I don't recommend that any more - i recommend a separate partition for all your data
More here
http://www.linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php ... _partition
That does not help you now if you don't read between the lines and have the knowledge...
Make a folder in home (what you call it does not really matter, say bak)
Move all your hidden files and folders in there and reinstall
Any special setting will be in the saved files and you can add it when needed
This will be faster than to manually go through the files and clean them...

Wow! I thought my connection was fast! I takes me about 25 to 30 minutes, but what I generally do is start a torrent download when I go to bed and then let it seed overnight. That way it works for everyone!

That did it - thanks.

New problem. EnvyNG does not appear on the menu even though it shows that it is installed in Synaptic. I tried to manually launch, but no luck. I went to /usr/share/envy/launcher and double clicked the icon and that didn't work either. I tried to completely uninstall and reinstall it and still it doesn't show up on menu and cannot be launched no matter what. I tried typing Envy and Envyng in Gnomedo and it doesn't find the app. I prefer to use Envy to install my card, since it also installs the ATI control center which Ubuntu's tool does not.

Any suggestions?

There is no gtk frontend for EnvyNG anymore. You can run a terminal based version by running sudo envyng -t in a terminal or install the gui based qt frontend through the package manager.

Husse, when the final comes out, I should be ok upgrading since I followed this link to create a seperate partition whenI first installed LM:
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=11872

My setup is basically this:

swap -----Formatted as swap ----per above rules
/ -----------Formatted as ext3 -----10 – 12 Gig.
/home ---Formatted as ext3 ------Whatever you need

This has been already answered in this thread... At this point there is no GTK GUI for envyNG, you can either use CLI version (installed) or install QT GUI, which will work fine. Search Synaptic for Envy and you'll find all the packages (there is GTK placeholder too). Also, I'm not sure about it, but I thought that either Intrepid installs control center too or it's in repos.

Is 'home' on a separate partition? If not, then you'll have to back up if you want to upgrade to felicia. If it's on a separate partition, then you can choose the manual option in the partition part of the install, mark home's mount point as /home, and tell it not to be formatted. you would have to mark your root partition as root, and mark that to be formatted of course. And in the live cd you would need to delete all config files and folders (the ones that are like '.filename') in order for the felicia settings to install correctly.
Linux Mint 8 RC1 = Nice
'apt install' can be used on Linux Mint as a shortcut for 'sudo apt-get install'. 'apt x' can be used for various other apt commands as well.
When a problem is solved, please add [SOLVED] to your thread title.

IMHO This is not a good piece of advice. While some settings can indeed break the behaviour of new versions, some folders should be kept! The most obvious ones are .firefox and .thunderbird, no need to lose all you emails and bookmarks! Generally it's a good idea to backup all settings folders, then make another backup of new ones and try using the old ones checking one by one if there are any problems.

Congratulations to you and your team !
Simply the BEST Linux Release Candidate that I have ever tried - it puts a lot of formal releases to shame.
The bad news is that it's more firmly Ubuntu release based, but the good news is that your team have, as usual, done a better job than the Ubuntu team in making it work !
The only big niggle was that, like Ubuntu 8.10 it 'hanged' for about four minutes on ShutDown or ReStart, but the lazarusrat patch has fixed that for my rigs, allowing me to install all my old favourites through 'Package Manager' (Synaptic), including the new, very much improved graphical interface VLC Player (ie vlc + dependencies).
