How do I install new drivers for my soundcard and video card

Post by MissouriKnight »

I am totally brand new to Linux. I downloaded and saved drivers for my cards, but I do not know how to install them.

Could someone please help?

The files are:

ati-driver-installer-8-11-x86.x86_64.run
and
XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00.tar.gz

I searched around, but could only learn that this somehow requires a rebuild of the kernel, whatever that means.

Could anyone walk me through how to add these drivers?
