WOTM Source files

Post by McLovin »

Ok, thanks to sputty we now have a location for the WOTM source files. So if you win WOTM, please contact me, either through PM, or e-mail, so that I can get the source files to the ftp server, as we do need to keep the source files available. The source files would be the orginal svg, if made using vectors, xcf, with the layers intact, if made with gimp, psd if made with photoshop, or what ever the project file extention ins for the program used to make the image. This is going gice us a way to keep things organized, and be able to comply with the LinuxMint GPL license.

Great! :D
I've been planning for similar idea along these lines for some time now...
The only difference being that it would be a space to store
ALL mint wallpaper source files that anyone cares to put up there.
So anyone who wants to can easily grab the source and alter it anyway they want,
and even pick up a new idea or two about wallpaper making and about
different techniques used by different artists and a chance to get into or even deepen
once knowledge in Gimp, Inkscape, Photoshop and whatnot!
I'll get back to you in this matter.

How does this sound?

@sputty01: Seems like your idea has come further then mine.
I was planning a completely different and much simpler concept, your idea is much better
I say, pick up that thread and go with it!

well, the ftp side of it is already done, and as it seems, I have some web space for a web site that I can use for whatever, even to set-up a deb repo, bit I have no idea how to set 1 up, so if anyone knows, i would be more than happy to listen. But I can still set up a wen site to go to and have links to the files, put thunbnails for the images, and then link to the source files.

I think it's great to start with what McLovin has and go from there. I've been tossing around the idea of creating some tutorials, and posting them somewhere. I'm not sure if this is a way we want to go, just a thought. It would be nice to make it as easy as possible for people to browse and search the images, but I may not be the one to ask how. I'm learning, but others know more then I.

As I think about it some more, and I'm just thinking and rambling here, I have to agree with sputty that we don't detract from what we have here in the forums. We could always propose an 'Mint Art Tutorials' thread if there was some interest. I do think t would be nice to have a site where all the artwork and the source files can be stored & browsed. I can envision something where you could search for art by artist, or by tags, or some other vague search criteria. It could be just a simple gallery. Just some more thoughts to consider.

The WOTM has been dead for a while, I got very ill and had step down from everything I was doing in the Mint community, and the art kind of fell by the wayside, so unfortunately for the time being, WOTM isn't going on, that may change in the future, but for right now, it is what it is.
I am going to lock this thread for the time being, as it holds no real relevance at the current time, if things change, I will unlock it.
