DVD "no libdvdcss" I checked its there?

Post by matthekc »

I have had a problem playing DVD's lately with ubuntu and mint. I'm using Felicia right now. I tried reinstalling libdvdcss I tried different players. I burn all my operating systems to dvd and they install fine. I have an unencrypted Saturday night live disk(official store bought) that plays fine. I'm confused I have all the necessary tools but no joy.

Could I have a hardware issue...
How could I test for that if it might be the case?

Is anyone else having problems playing DVDs or is it just me?

Have you tried using another DVD to see if the problem is widespread, or just related to that one DVD? I just played a DVD in Totem with Mint 6. No problems on my end.

I have tried several, I'm starting to think somehow it could be hardware. If everyone else can play dvds and I can't logic would suggest my computer is somehow different.

Later tonight or tomorrow I look into doing a block copy and checking integrity of the drive or something then. I know there is a command to do something to that effect. At any rate I'm beginning to think it may not be a dvd codec problem.

Im having a similar problem. I can get my dvds to play but near the end I get the same message saying that it's likely that I don't have libdvdcss to play encrypted media.

I have same problem. Totem plays DVDs I have made myself (in Windows) but it will not play BBC DVDs. I get same error - no libdvdcss. I have libdvdcss2installed but libdvdcss is not in the repository. I would like to get Totem to work but if this is not possible is there an alternative? Paul Oates

I've had that problem with kaffeine. it won't play many of the iso files on my computer, or some encrypted DVDs. other programs will play them though so i don't know what to think about that.

Hi there,

Having a similar problem here. I purchased two DVDs for my daughter and one won't play. They are from different manufactures. I too am getting a message about libdvdcss but I have libdvdcss3 installed and libdvdcss is not in the repository.

I have tried the DVD that doesn't work on our home player and it runs okay.

Regards
John
