Which edition of Elyssa (main?)
Which hardware - unfortunately to know that it is a Dell vostro 1400 does not tell us more than that it is a Dell vostro 1400
Dell and other change the content of a model but not the name quite often...
Run lspci in a terminal and post here
Is it a laptop or a desktop?
If desktop, do you use a connection in the front?

Re: My laptop headphone doesn't work on Elyysa
You have Intel HDA8
This is a general solution that mostly works
http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopi ... sa#p107982
Of course you use model=dell
There are variations of what to add in case this does not work - search the forum for "ich8 sound" to find them

Re: My laptop headphone doesn't work on Elyysa
I have the same problem with my dell studio 1535, it seems to be a common problem.
This is a suggested fix i found on an ubuntu forum but it didn't seem to work, maybe it will work for you

Re: My laptop headphone doesn't work on Elyysa
I do have an idea. double click the speaker icon lower right menu bar, this will open your volume controls, open preferences and make sure that headphone is checked that should give a volume slider make sure that it is slide up and that the headphones are not muted...... this might be to simple but it may be the fix. Re: My laptop headphone doesn't work on Elyysa
I had dropped this. Will take a look again but for some reason I can't get my own headphones to work either
There are so many posts in the forum now (Mint is growing!) that I hardly have time to answer all let alone do some digging....
It has worked perfectly for my up to Elyssa so why it does not now....
OUCH!
I try to figure out what's wrong in my Felicia (I think it's the hardware on my new computer) so I went back to Elyssa for a while with no success
I have to dig deeper .....

Re: My laptop headphone doesn't work on Elyysa
Hmm - I only have USB headphones for my main computer and on the laptop I have no problems (ICH7 sound > HDA7 very similar to HDA8)
I have run out of ideas.....
