I looked around a bit but did not really find anything useful except for one thing which I don't put much hope to but what the heck
You have found how to start compatibility (damn - that's hard to spell)
Press tab so you can edit the boot options (the line at the bottom ending in splash quiet)
Remove the splash quiet bit and add
vga=771
(this sets the resolution in command line mode)
Now boot in compatibility mode
And we have a troubleshooter
