I have Linux mint Felicia installed n Latitude D820 machine. At work I have a dell docking station connected to a monitor. When I connect my laptop to the docking station and turn it on, I can see the Linux Mint screen with the green progress bar, but when I should see the login screen, the monitor goes blank. Then when I turn the computer off by pressing and holding the power button, I can the Linux Mint shutdown screen again.
It looks like it can detect the monitor, because I can see the linux mint screen when loading and shutting down.

Looks like it's getting problems when X tries to start
