no sound on Dell Vostro 2510

Post by pinghacker »

I installed Felicia with mint4win on my new Vostro 2510 and can't get any sound.

Any ideas?

Not quite sure if there is any difference with a normal install...
Check all settings for sound
Start with a double click on the speaker next to the clock and check that nothing is muted
Then in Control Center > Sounds you can test the "System sounds" and finally every application has it's own settings
If no success run lspci in a terminal and post the result (right click to copy)

ICH8
Well known Intel sound with some problems
Here is a link to a solution that helps for ICH8
http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopi ... sa#p107982
Of course you don't use model=acer - rather model=dell or model=auto
There are variations on this - search the forum for ICH8 sound and you will find them
Don't know why ICH8 gives strange problems for some, but in most cases it's solved and works well
