32bit OS on a dual 64bit processor/mb ?

Post by marty510 »

I want to use a new mb with a dual 64 bit processor and was wondering if my HDD with a 32 bit OS(with all my files!) will work?

Linux is not Windows - luckily
If there is not very large differences I think it might just work with the exception of proprietary video drivers (ATI nvidia)
This goes for any change between different hardware.
So in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf set the driver like so in
Section "Device"
Driver "vesa"
That should be all that's necessary
Reinstall the video driver

Hey there. I am running Mint 6 (32 bit) on a quad core while I await the 64 bit version. The only real problem I had was with the SLI video cards that needed a little tinkering. Good luck
