I am currently using Elyssa XFCE after having used the KDE and GNOME versions. I found that I preferred the balance of speed and user friendliness that the XFCE edition of Mint offers. So now I am looking forward to Felicia XFCE.

Many thanks to Merlwiz for all the work. :D

And about when comes Linux Mint 6 Xfce CE? :roll:
You shouldn't have to wait much longer. The development release I tested was awesome! There are just some very minor fixes and merlwiz79 has been working on them. Your patience will be well rewarded! I honestly think this will be the best Xfce release to date and the last one received some very positive reviews!

I have uploaded a new dev test iso.
Exploder has to test it and give it the green light to go.
Then Clem has to do the same.
Once both do that clem pushes it to the servers.
That normally takes a few days.

If everything works out sometime next week.

A heartfelt thanks to all you guys. I am running Mint 6 Gnome with Xfce installed and getting by with it but I sure miss the finely polished Xfce version. I cant wait! :)

Theres a form to safely install XFCE in my Felicia (Gnome version). It just that my 512 ram laptop don't work as fast as I want and I don't like to do a fresh install......... that's all .
you can add regular xfce desktop to the main edition but its not as polished as the mint xfce. Clean install is the best way to go

Sorry but the release was delayed by a bug. :?
If network manager isn't installed it sets up the network incorrectly and cause it to take forever to boot. :(
I also had my fan on the video card burn out and the 5th was my birthday.
I have an iso I uploaded that should be good for a release.
Exploder and Clem just need to test it.
Once they say it's good it'll move to the servers for everyone to download.
Hopefully I can complete the Release notes tonight.

Exploder got a new test machine, that should help speed up how long it takes him to test.(installing and boot speeds)
He is currently downloading the iso and hopefully will be testing it soon.
I hope that I ironed out all the bugs we found and have an RC1 soon for everyone to test.

Once clem tests it and gives it the green light it'll take a few days for the servers to get it.
Then he'll put out the release notes and tell everyone to test it.

Felicia XFCE CE LATEST UPDATE

Post by merlwiz79 »

Exploder has tested it and only found that emerald uses the wrong theme.
It's small and shouldn't stop use from releasing the latest iso for testing.

Clem hasn't said anything and was working on the server problems.
I am about 80% done with the release notes and waiting for any input from clem.
I still have no info on my gpu heatsink and fan. :(

I uploaded the release notes for the dev team to look at, so I could make corrections to any errors.

I don't think I can do much more, my pc died last night. :shock:
Not sure what it is. :?
The graphics card and cpu looks fine.(doesn't smell burnt either)

I'll tear my pc apart this week and see what it is.
I have an extra motherboard and power supply, so I should be able to get it working again. :)

-Does the CPU fan moves when you turn your PC on ?

I would say if you are lucky, it might be either bad power-supply or bad ram... Try with a new/different power-supply, if it doesn't change anything, try with a new/different ram...

If not, maybe the motheboard fried (it happens often here, as the voltage isn't very stable, and most houses don't have ground plug...)

Well I use to do this stuff for a living at my old job. :)
I believe it was only the power supply.
Once I changed it out all the fans came back on.
I just got my gpu heatsink and fan today.
I just have to put it all back together to see if it all works. :D

Hi.

I run Mint XFCE 5, and I just found a issue with Hal and USB drives.

Its when I plug in my USB hard drives it comes up with an error and will not mount. Its to do with the Hal policies and it being a hard drive, I had to add this to /etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf

Code: Select all

<match action="org.freedesktop.hal.storage.*">
    <return result="yes"/>
</match>
I found the info from this post:

http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopi ... 73#p122973

Has this been address for 6?
