Elyssa Crash

Post by Fergus »

Hey,

i have had elyssa crash on me 3 times, i've yet to find the source but i thought i would try see if i can track down the log files at least.
I am using a dell d620 with a 2gb of ram and a nvidia quadro nvs 110m.

On each occasion everything will free and the caps lock and the scroll lock lights will flash.
I have had no problems with screen resolution or display drivers, however, i have found a .xsession-errors.log in my home directory. Is this the only log file that i should look at?
If not could some one point me in the right direction as how to find the source of the crash?

here is the log file:
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...

The xsession errors are about what errors I get - and no crash
logs are in /var/log
user.log is perhaps the one that's most interesting

Just to update this thread.... my machine is still crashing! It is regular and annoying enough to really disrupt my work now.
from what i have read this is a kernel problem or at least a wireless driver issue.

I have found similar posts on ubuntu forums:

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-480262.html
http://ph/ubuntuforums.com/showthread.p ... 83&page=12

In my case, the most common crash is when i disconnect my windows mobile when i am using it as a modem. Does anyone have a mechanism for disconnecting these devices correctly?
http://linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 060#p85060

Examining my /var/log/syslog and message i have:

Code: Select all

Sep 8 10:58:17 Cassius kernel: [ 4603.446326] usb 4-1: USB disconnect, address 2
Sep 8 11:12:08 Cassius syslogd 1.5.0#1ubuntu1: restart.
Sep 8 11:12:08 Cassius kernel: Inspecting /boot/System.map-2.6.24-16-generic

Can anyone offer any debug suggestions at least? I have heard talk of some sort of debug file when the kernel panics.

Thanks
Husse

hmmm - no time to investigate today. Will mark it so I can come back to you
Although I don't like to recommend it you could install the latest kernel (enable level 4 and 5 in mintUpdate)
There is of course a risk that the wifi stops working (if you use wifi), but you can always choose the older kernel at boot. There are other things updated that may change things... You may have to reinstall in the end so keep your data safe (on a separate partition)
Edit
this is you

Good to have a crossreference

This issue is still on going..... i recently reflashed my phone and now the ICS application will auto disconnect..... and consequently will crash elyssa.
Is there anyway i can fix this.... or at least source the right logs so that i have something to track down. I believe dmesg seems the best but there are also lines in kern.log

Does anyone know if this problem still exists in felicia?

I'll look into this in the coming days
I have few reports about a total lock up so I can't say what happens if you upgrade but there's always a chance that things change

I looked at the working link above and this is after a considerable time as "idle"
Is that the case for you too?

The link to ph/ubuntuforums does not work....

hmm sometimes yes, but it mostly start with the rndis connection to my phone. Somehow that seems to have cleared with a reflash of my phone so i suspect there was something wrong on the phone. I am still getting random crashes just through general use. I'll post various log files the next time it happens.
thanks
