Hello everybody,
For months now I have had a curious login situation. The PC would freeze most of the time when the Login splash would ask me for my user name and password!
There was nothing I could do except reboot and try again; most of the time, the same situation repeated itself.
So I either had to try booting in 'safe mode', sometimes with success, or enable the Automatic Login function.: Menu>Control Center>Desktop>Log in Window.
1) On the Security tab of this window, there is a choice for Automatic login.
2) The Accessibility tab, in Sounds gives you a choice on whether you want to use sounds for: Log In screen Ready etc.
Disabling this sound notification, did the trick!
Now I can log in without a problem, entering Name and Password.
STRANGE BUT TRUE!

STRANGE LOGIN PROBLEM SOLVED
Hello sanguinemoon,
The Log-in problem applies to Bianca Gnome only.
Worked around it by disabling the 'Clunk' sound that announces the Login window.
Now that I am running Bianca KDE, this problem doesn't exist any more.
