Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
I already posted a comment on the blog, but i thought that this was better.
Is it possible to make my main edition of 6 a XFCE edition? So that o my netbook(Acer Aspire One) it will run smoother? I don not want a new install, because i just have finished customizing so that it runs better on my netbook. (Thing like webcam etc...) I found this on the internet:
(http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce) but i didn't know if that would be safe for mint...

Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
Hi,
Linux Mint 6 Felicia XFCE CE RC1 .
Installed on hard drive
I had 2 bugs related to my video card driver. i tried another driver
for my video card on other PC . It seems to work ok now.
------------------
I have my NTFS and Fat32 mounted automatically
I can enable or disable them. Very good
Hope for the next edition it can mount file system Ext3 - 4 - Reiserfs etc. ,
it would be fine. (I know about fstab problem).
------------------
MintDisk has a intuitive and easy-understanding interface but only is available
in English language.
For the next Linux Mint XFCE CE v.7 a screenshot of it on the forum (translation).
It is very easy to translate it.
-------------------
Missing translations posted on the forum are out yet
------------------
Chestnut Dialer v. 0.3.3 - the latest version.
Well, i culd not test it because i do not use any dial up connection
Next Mint XFCE CE v.7
I would suggest to let it in English language because this package offered
simply came as half in Portuguese - half in Italian and 3 or 4 words in
Enghish. It is gonna be very boring to translate it. (my opinion).
-------------------
So, a Great Mint XFCE CE RC1 release.
CONGRATS! Merlwiz79
cheers

Completed the dual boot install for Felicia Gnome [My main operating system], and Felicia XFCE CE RC1. It's 3AM and no time to give XFCE a work out, but I like what I've seen so far

Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
I'm currently running Mint 5 XFCE on my ThinkPad - very stable and becomes my everyday working O/S. Which command can I manually update it to Mint 6 XFCE RC1 for try out?
Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
WOW - what a productive, busy little team - so many goodies to play with !
32-bit Mint 6 has already become my everyday, home use distro on my E4600rig and I have yet to try the 64-bit version on my just finished Q6600 rig, but last night I ran a LiveCD session of the XFCE RC1 version on my trusty E4600 rig.
Learning from experience, I first ran Mintupdate and then used Synaptic to add ntfs-config which I ran to gain access to my audio-video collection NTFS drives through Thunar. The already incorporated VLC meant that I could play my videos straight away, whilst the new version of Exaile accessed my MP3s and the updates conferred greater stability.
Overall it looks as if it has been made for my Acer Aspire 150, on which I had already installed 32-bit Mint 6, but I'll try replacing it with this RC1 XFCE release and see how I get on. Please note that I am not a Linux command line sequence guru, so Mint is my distro of choice, whilst Mint6 is simply getting better and I'm most impressed with its bypassing of problems that have beset its Ubuntu parent. Great work guys and thank you !
PostScript - Great Idea that didn't work. Because the Aspire screen is a miniature widescreen, it didn't match the default installation displays, so that execution 'buttons' were off-screen. After struggling with Alt-keys the installed distro was then also a mis-match, preventing effective updates etc, so I have simply used XP-hosted SelfImage to restore 32-bit Mint6 with its default, just usable 1024x600 display setting. Pity, Mint6 XFCE4 was looking very promising for the Aspire. (Perhaps I'll try again with the formal release.)

Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
Just put it on one of my laptops, pretty decent. Constructive criticism though, Xubuntu has a direct install other than booting into the LiveCD. This is an excellent option and it's sad to see the Mint XFCE team chose to remove this. This would also be an excellent option to incorporate into the main edition. While the LiveCD has it's place for those wanting to try out Linux it's rather useless for the majority who are installing.

Resources, man hours....
But the early Felicia fluxbox beta has a direct install option.....
We'll see if it can be used elsewhere

Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
So how is this coming? It's been testing for more than 2 weeks, no? I've got an older Dell laptop sitting around with a borked Windows install that Mint XFCE might be great for....
Not trying to hassle, just curious and interested.

Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
We are working hard with the KDE and Fluxbox editions right now and merwiz79 is helping out a lot there
But it is soon time to study this topic and perhaps fix problems so the final can be released
Soon - but please remember we are a small team

Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
It should be released some time after the x64 bit version.
It's testing was started 1st and shouldn't be far from release.
I have to finish a few things for the XFCE CE and then fix the bugs.
Really the main thing is to install apt-xapian-index and gvfs.
The fixes should be able to be fixed by some package updates.

Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
Fair enough. I know you folks work hard, and that there aren't many of you. I'm sure the result will be, as usual, excellent.
So, from what you're saying, I'm assuming that if I install XFCE RC1 now, it would be pretty painless to upgrade to the released version, and I might not have to do a full new install. I'd probably put data on a separate partition anyway, so the latter might not be that big a deal. Still, it would indeed be nice if it could be done just by installing/upgrading a few packages.

I hope to have an internal test iso for the final soon.(hopefully tomorrow)
I have put some of the updated packages in the Community Repo.

Re: Linux Mint 6 XFCE CE RC1 Released!
From my own personal point of view, RC1 has been so good the final release seems a bit superfluous! It is an excellent piece of work which I have been using as my default distro ever since it was released - hard to see what improvements the final might bring. Good luck with it anyway.
