What this error means?

Post by vrk1219 »

Hi,
Just before my system abruptly powered off due to power failure.
Now after I log and try to Preferences -> Sound -> Test (Sound Playback)
I'm getting the following error.

Please also let me know how I can solve this in future.

I've never exactly seen that, but since it began after a power outage I'd try starting up in recovery mode and see if that helps. Or if it displays any problems?

This doesn't happen to be a "Mint4Win/Wubi" install does it?

I know Wubi is much less forgiving of power outages.

The following guide might also be helpful, just know that Mint 5 is based on Ubuntu Hardy and Mint 6 is based on Intrepid:

Hi kansasnoob,
Thanks for your reply.
This didn't happen in Wubi install.

After entering into the recovery mode, I was able to hear sound.
But, this error is happening almost every time.
Even restart and going into recovery mode do not work at times... and suddenly some times the sound appears  :x
A weird story....
