Acer Extensa 4620z laptop - webcam support?

Post by PcPixel »

Does anyone know if the built-in webcam on the 4620z Acer Extensa is supported? I tried running the "capture image" utility and it couldn't initialize a video source. This is a fresh install with all the updates so I haven't added any additional software. Everything else works fantastic, but was just curious about the w4eb cam. Thanks!

Will do. :) Laptop is at home right now. It could very well be supported and I just damaged a cable. My father's girlfriend spilled wine all over the keyboard, so he gave it to me. I managed to find a replacement keyboard for $45, so I cleaned it out & repaired it. However, when putting it back together I might have damaged a ribbon cable. We'll know tonight when I run those two commands. :)

Ouch :)
The ribbon cables of laptops are fragile....

Oh most definitely they are :) But considering I got a $500+ laptop for $45, I'm willing to live with no webcam if that was in fact the cable I damaged. If I *did* damage it at all :)

Oh, I have to say: SUPERB OPERATING SYSTEM. I have never been more pleased with a client Linux OS than with Mint. Keep up the fantastic work!

The magic of google
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 064e:a101 Suyin Corp.
that's the webcam - you see there are hundreds (or thousands ?) of labels but only a handful manufacturers so the only way to go is with the ID
Google this ID and intrepid/mint or linux and i think you may find a solution :)

You are amazing. :) Thank you so much for the help! I'll see what I find & then do another install tonight. This first one was just to get Vista off of the poor thing and see how much of it worked. I want to redo it with a more "refined" install.

Thanks again!

You are amazing
Oh no :)
If you post 12 and 1/2 thousand posts in two years you learn at least a little
(it's now two years since I joined the Mint forum and community - and now I don't use Windows unless I need to for problem solving - networking issues and the like)
