[SOLVED]first sound and then none

Post by houndhen »

After I first installed Mint 6 gnome on my desktop there was a sound when I logged in. I noticed recently that there was no sound when I logged in. Today I tried to watch a youtube video--no sound. I put a music cd into my cd/dvd drive and my computer realized that there was a music cd and offered Rhythm box to play it. It never played. I clicked on play several times but nothing. It didn't even indicate that it was playing. There was no sound. I have sound in another distro.

After doing a search about sound in this forum, most of the sound problems seemed to be with laptops. Mine is a desktop with a asrock conroe motherboard. The invoice says that the sound card is 7.1 channel HD Sound adapter. Not sure about the sound card beyond that. Is there a problem with sound in Mint 6?

Not sure this is enough information to get help with this or not. If someone knows what I might try then please show me the direction to take.

Thanks,

You both have ICH sound
This solution for ICH8 will probably work for you
http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopi ... sa#p107982
Of course you change model=acer to whatever you have or model=auto

Thanks, Husse. I will give that a try. I assume that I would not only change the model=acer to model=auto but will also change the 'options snd-hda-intel' to 'options snd-sda-intel' since I have a sata hard drive.

thanks,
Thanks,

Will do. Thanks for the info. You know what one does when he assumes.

I will go back and edit the "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base" file.
Thanks,
Harold
