play midi files

Post by mickel »

I'm trying to get musical notes to play from violinonline.com for self instruction. when I click on a note, no player opens and I can't find any that will play these files. All my other sounds work fine so I'm figuring that neither the main edition v6 or the KDE 5 that i have dual installed on my machine contains a midi player. I tried all of the ones in Apt finder and Mint install but so far nothing is working. I use only Linux so I need a solution. I am using Firefox 3.06. I don't have knowledge of terminal so any complicated code re-writing would be wasted on me. Any thoughts?

A quick Google search shows that timidity seems to be the preferred MIDI player at the moment... Have you tried it? Which other players have you tried?

Run this in a terminal and enter your password

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude install timidity-interfaces-extra
P.S. I just downloaded a MID file from the site you mentioned and it works with timidity.
