Opera localization

Post by BaidareW »

Hi,
first want to say that Mint is best Linux distribution :) Tryed many of them to fit my high expectations :)

Don't know why but on ALL linux distributions firefox is somehow very slow compared to windows firefox or opera which is my default browser in all OS. Now that I had installed opera 9.63 on Mint 6 (x64) I have some problems with localization of menus, not all letters shown correctly in menus of Opera. I see rectangle instead of some letters. In OpenSuse everything was OK and in Ubuntu also the same problem. Everything else OK with translations so it is only about opera.

Next question: when booting I got booting screen but it is not full height and widht, I tryed to set "widescreen" in booting options but it didn't helped. The same on shutdown, I see picture with big frames.

I don't know about the Opera problem - possibly a question for the Opera forums
Unfortunately some computers get the usplash in the wrong size - this will be solved in the next version of Mint - Gloria
You can fix it rather simply

Code: Select all

gksu gedit /etc/usplash.conf
You should probably use a resolution that is one or two steps lower that the present one
Then

Code: Select all

sudo update-initramfs -u
Please take care as some bad mistake here can cause trouble
