Hello everyone.
My Desktop Computer features 3 different Soundcards /Soundchips, but I can only get one to do what I want.
The internal VIA HD Audio Chip on the Motherboard works perfectly.
The PCI SB Audigy Player has no Output at all.
Same for the Noname Soundcard with Realtek Chip.
I've tried to pick other Soundcards in the Audio Configuration and pushing the Test button, but had no success.
Only working device is the onboard via chip.
I've got no idea what to check next.
All Soundcards work in Windows Vista.
The PCI ones were tested in Ubuntu 8.04 before upgrading the System in September.

Re: Audio Problems (Multiple Soundcards)
I can't remember if Audigy needs a driver from Creative - you could google Creative Linux driver
Run a few commands in a terminal
cat /proc/asound/cards
lsmod | grep snd
lspci
and post here

Re: Audio Problems (Multiple Soundcards)
Sorry, didn't have the time to catch up on the problem in the last weeks due to university exams.
So here is the output:
All cards recognized correctly as far as I can see.

Re: Audio Problems (Multiple Soundcards)
You have in fact 4 sound cards/chips detected
2 [HDMI ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI HDMI
can be a sound chip on your graphics card, because I see HDMI
This is the motherboard one (Azalia)
1 [SB ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB
Can you remove the Cmedia? That seems to me also to be an integrated sound chip - this is really confusing - or is this the motherboard chip and both the HDA instances I see are on the graphics card?
Can you sort this out for me - I might have something but first I need to know this
(The Audigy seems to have the right drivers)

Re: Audio Problems (Multiple Soundcards)
To be sure also run lspci -v and post the sections for the sound cards
And please go through all settings for sound not forgetting the mixer you get if you double click the volume applet by the clock
