How to Fix Blank/Lined OpenOffice Menus
When trying to use OO, I was getting just blanks and lines in all the dropdown menus, making the software useless. A search on Google revealed that it was a bug associated with my Nvidia driver. I needed to keep the closed source driver to keep my screen resolution at a reasonable level, but disabling the visual effects under Preferences -> Appearance fixed the OO menu problem.
