upgrade

When Mint 4.0 is (out-of-date ) will it be possible to upgrade to Mint5.0 directly , instead of installing Mint 5.0 ?
Wouldn't there be most of the packages in common with mints 4&5 ?

install the new version is the prefered option.
you can modify your /etc/apt/sources.list and change dryna to elyssa and fiesty to gutsy.
but this will not really give you mint5 just updated packages.
and then do a dist-upgrade.

I shall do the fresh install, as soon as I get some more info. re: Brother files to save for re-use.

if you are doing a complete fresh install make sure you have a /home partition if you dont already.
this will make further install/updates far less painful.

Hi:
THe question that I have , is this, Where can I find the relevant files for my Brother Printer, MFC210 in place of Brother DCP-115C, which has no driver, but the 210 Driver does work,
to save ,to enable me to upgrade to Mint 5.0,Gnome

you could look for *.ppd files.
this is what cups uses as a printer description file. (driver)
usually found in /usr/share/ppd/...
it may describe your printer in the name.
or you can look for it on the web too.
