Hi

Welcome to Mint.

I assume you were trying to run the live cd, in which case in most instances all hardware is properly configured if you run the cd by default but not always. Running in compatability mode is often more successful and when installing will install the system to match your hardware.

You should not see the kernal panic again.

OK Back to square 1.

Googling around suggests that this message is usually associated with a hardware problem. Try checking your memory with the live cd as a bad stick often causes this problem.

Have you changed any hardware since you installed MInt?

The error messages refer to line nos in the Kernel source code, way beyond my expertise.

Have you tried the memory test?

Just to eliminate the obvious.boot with the live cd and post the contents of your menu.lst file located at /boot/grub on the partition where mint is installed on your hdd.(in case you have other kernels you can boot from.

It's absolutely because of the updates. I have reinstalled 4 times because of this same problem. It only happens after updating. It just keeps hounding you to update, then when you give in and do it, your system is ruined. Kinda chaps your butt.

What setting have you got your mint update on?

You should be safe if you set the preference on 3 but to be absolutely certain 2 is better.
