Installing Office 2007 in Linux Mint - help!!

Post by lazza727 »

I'm a Linux Mint Newbie - I discovered Linux at the weekend and I inadvertently 'wiped' Vista et al when I installed Linux on my laptop. I'm in the last 3 weeks of a 3 year degree course and I have my final essay to complete. I need to access Office 2007 as I don't have the time/inclination to learn OO.

I tried using the advice on Quick Tweeks:

- Select Applications>Wine>Configure Wine to bring the Wine Configuration dialog box.
- Select Windows Version as Windows Vista from the Applications Tab
- Override two dll files rpcrt4.dll and msxml3.dll from Libraries tab. Override them to be Native (Windows)
- Download rpcrt4.dll file. Click here and save it on your desktop.
- Open the c_drive from Wine menu
- Delete rpcrt4.dll and msxml3.dll files from Windows/System32 directory.
- Copy the downloaded rpcrt4.dll file into Windows/System32 directory
- Download msxml3.msi file from Microsoft download site (here is the direct link for your convenience).
- Install msxml3.msi file from the Terminal window by issuing msiexec /i msxml3.msi
- Double click on setup.exe file from your MS Office 2007 installation CD. If it doesn’t work just type wine setup.exe from the Terminal window.
- Follow the normal installation procedures.

Office starting installing, I entered the Product Key and then the installation halted (after approx. 2 mins).

Can anyone help as I need to complete the essay ASAP!

Rgds,

No offense, but have your tried OpenOffice Writer?
What exactly is there to learn?

Anyways, there's another tutorial here that may help.

Download the trial version and install Office 2007 through that. It won't be perfect but it will be better than using "standard" wine and the trial will last for the rest of your course.

In the other thread OP posted, I recommended using virtualbox, but only because of the deadline, and I hadn't found that link.

From: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=4992
A regression broke the Office 2003 & 2007 installers in 1.1.17. It is still not fixed as of 1.1.19. Already-installed Office apps appear to run fine in these versions. Install in an earlier version and upgrade.
Might try this link.
