Where are config files for USB and/or scanner stored?

I still haven't solved the problem in this thread:

I find the scanner (brother2) in some files scattered over the system, where should I look for more?
I have found and adjusted /home/mats/.so_sane_state to say bus1 device2 but xsane still says bus2 device1 so there should be at least one more file with bus2 device1
Looking for it....

I've seen it - I have a file /proc/bus/usb/002/001
I can't remove it (and of course I used sudo) not allowed to do that
But you're right this may be my problem file....

I installed the driver too but i dont have your scanner to test. lol

I have noticed that the file /proc/bus/usb/devices does not have an entry for your scanner but i havent connected it.
so do you have an entry in there for the scanner??

are you using any other usb devices?

I would have thought you should at least see the host controllers at the top.
plug something usb in to wake it up at least.

You're not supposed to touch /proc or /sys !!!!!! These are purely virtual filesystems only present for info purposes that belong to the kernel itself. Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procfs

Just trying to fix my scanner problem the rough way

This box is nuts
lsusb > scanner on bus1dev2
sane > scanner on bus2dev1
so getting rid of /proc/bus/usb/002/001 seems an option even if you break your system. I always have daily backups of the entire / partition so to get back is simple.

usb devices empty even after my Sony ericsson phone connected and automatically transferred some photos.
But - with the phone connected "brother2" is now bus2dev2 while lsusb still finds it on bus1 (now dev3 and the phone dev4)
There must be some gnomes in there
