Hehe, I used to have troubles like this. Minimize everything to the taskbar, then open the video/app and play it. As long as there are no windows behind it, there probably won't be any graphic glitches. This used to happen to me all the time. It also did that to my screensaver :( that's how far it went lol

It could be faulty drivers. I suggest you rollback (you can find those on Mint/Ubuntu forums), and use VESA if you're not doing anything intensive (gaming, video production). That would be my second guess.

Hi All,
First post, just installed Mint last week.
I'm having a very similar problem but it just seems to be affecting offline video content. Happening with all video file types and players. Fullscreen and small.
I tried the players that came with the install, then VLC and something else, same problem.
If I remove Compiz, will this fix the problem? And, how will removing Compiz affect me?
