[Solved] No Sound

Post by Bogeyman »

I'm totally new to Linux, a class A Newbie for sure. I dual-boot with Windows XP and Mint 6. Only been using it for a total of 1 day and find it intuitive and intriguing. First major problem is with sound. The box is a 7 yr. old Gateway PC that came with Boston speakers and a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy sound card. The speakers don't work in Mint. I went into Sound & Video and tried everything listed there for playback and came up empty handed. I then visited the Audigy web site and was intimidated at what I saw. Can you offer any suggestions?

randyoo,
Thanks for responding. I took a look at the site you had linked. It certainly addresses the problem. I started to follow what was suggested, however, my info and what they had displayed were not quite the same. I am new at this and not afraid to try anything to fix the problem, but I may be in over my head. I'll play around with it for awhile and see what happens.

Finally figured it out. After about 2 hrs. fussing with the volume control switches I managed to stumble upon the correct configuration. I had to spend some time reading and rereading the info on the ubuntu site suggested by randyoo. Thanks a lot for the help!!! The only thing left to correct is the ability to play CDs on Rhythmbox. DVDs play fine and Youtube plays back superbly. I may try a different music player. Once again, thanks for the help.
