Is the drive present in "Computer"
If yes it's recognized - if no you may have a hardware problem
If it's recognized try all sorts of different discs and see if one sort is recognized
It's not all too uncommon that certain discs don't work

OK guys - show us your /etc/fstab files
You should have a line in it for your drive like this
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
Possibly scd1...

Show the output of dmesg when you insert a CD. Also show the output of mount after the CD has been in for a minute or two.

And what is sdb? It's nowhere to be seen (but my eyes )

That should happen with a blank CDRand when I put a cdr in and click on it it gives the the error "Can't Mount File"
Try to remove Brasero as indicated
