I'm not sure what the problem is with your Gnome-Do on startup.. Have you checked "Startup Applications" and made sure that Gnome-Do is in fact included? As for the plugins, you need to install them separately:

apt install gnome-do-plugins
Then close Do and start it up again.. refreshing the plugins list didn't work for me for whatever reason.

I looked into it but couldn't find anything. Is there a reason you need to use Ctrl+e instead of Ctrl+l?

Ctrl-k takes you directly to the Google search bar.
