I feel I'm finally comfortable enough with Linux and working in the terminal to learn how to compile software. Plus I've run into some software in the past that couldn't be installed without compiling.
I'm going to use this guide.
http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/softinstall.html
So my question is, what do I need from the repos to start compiling? And what's a good tar package to start off with?
Also, if anyone knows of any other guides, tips, or tricks, feel free to share.
Thanks
Mark

Re: Compiling
Hi Mark, ubuntu provides a catch-all package for this called build-essential. Have fun!
