Re: New Slogan?
I like the old slogan but to me it's new.
How about "Mint - Linux For The Masses" or "Mint- Linux Beautified"

I suggest this post be moved to the new folder that Husse has created for "promotion" - more people will see it that way.

I re-submit my slogan:
FRESH. FRIENDLY. FREE.
Linux Mint

Linux Mint
Re: New Slogan?
How about this.
Linux Mint... Simply Refreshing
(just an idea, I personally like the old slogan)

Re: New Slogan?
I agree too! I have always liked the slogan and it really does sum up Mint in a simple phrase.
Re: New Slogan?
+1 old slogan is the best. And everyone can easily understand it.lakehousetech wrote:x2Zwopper wrote:+1rat in a cage wrote:i just love the old "from freedom came elegance" slogan. i think it's one of the best slogans in linux world, it shouldn't be changed.
What's so hard about understanding word elegance? Even my mother who doesn't know english at all, understands that word.Benni Jay wrote: 'From freedome came elegance' is nice too, but I think we need a new one.
Since Mint is a distribution with many translations, the slogan is
hard to understand for people who don't speak english (not everyone knows the
english word 'elegance').
Re: New Slogan?
+1 from me.
Just perfect like the distro itself.
It's not broken, no need to fix it, as a wise Minter is want to say

Re: New Slogan?
Folks, in my view too, the slogan "From freedom came elegance" is great, and I agree, there's no need to change it, and I'll be happy to see it remain as it is.AfterEight wrote:+1 from me.

What WOULD be nice, however, is to have some more options on how to promote LM in various promotional materials, ads etc - hence, the following thread is dedicated to that function:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=163&t=26916
As I'm sure you've seen in print ads, commericals etc, a product can have both a slogan AND various bits of wording or text to help raise interest / "sell" the product or idea. So, perhaps we can consider the "new slogan" thread closed? I'll see you over at the other thread...

I smile and identify with this every time I boot up, and gloat over the "mint sound" when my co-workers look over and try to see what kind of geek I am. Mint is an elegant distro considered alone, and an elegant version of Ubuntu if you must make that connection. Its MintUpdate, MintInstall, MintBackup, MintDesktop are all elegant implementations utilitarian applications. I love the way Mint makes work easy and fun.
Re: New Slogan?
I like "Simply Refreshing", but it could be shortened to just "Refreshing" or something like "Ahhh...Refreshing!" Honestly, that's what sold me on Linux Mint - how unlike Gnome was compared to just about every other Gnome based distro out there. If I wanted plain old Gnome, I'd be using Ubuntu or Fedora. But, Mint just has its own thing going and it's just superior, IMO.
Re: New Slogan?
I'd say keep it.There are very few products that are so exciting that people will tattoo your logo on their body.

Re: New Slogan?
I agree you should shorten it to Mint. It definitely needs a new slogan.
Elegance has a lot of negative connotations, and frankly, I don't think Mint is all that elegant. I love Mint, but not for it's "elegance". I love it for it's simplicity. It's stability. It's ease of use. It's simple and appealing default look. It's familiarity of layout by default seeming like Windows. It's "Clean". It's "Fresh". Mint is a great name for it. The slogan is pretty meh compared to how great Mint itself is.
Simple.
Clean.
Fresh.
Easy.
Stable.
Solid.
Linux Mint
Because my mom can't figure out Windows.
Linux Mint
It just can't get easier.
Linux Mint
Your computer always works now.
Mint
Solid. Easy. Free.
Mint
What your computer should have been 10 years ago.
Mint
It just works.
Mint
No viruses. No crashes. No fees.
Mint
Your car won't run forever, but now your computer can.
Feel free to riff off my ideas, combine the concepts, reword them... But definitely Mint needs a new Image. I think just making it Mint would be a good first step.

Re: New Slogan?
I would maybe change the name to, something like: Linux:Mint
And for a slogan (to quote Colonel Schell): Mint works ! Plain, simple, true.

Re: New Slogan?
"Linux Mint
15 minutes can save you 15% or more on car insurance"
that's a good one
Mint also needs it's own version of that little Geico money guy. People will be like, "What's that?"
And I'll say, "Oh, that's just the money you could save by switching to Mint."
yes, yes

Re: New Slogan?
I don't understand why using the past tense in the current slogan. Why "came"? When? Where is elegance now? Is it gone?
"From freedom comes elegance"
or
"From freedom, elegance"
Aren't they better, more "eternal"?
