Conky help [SOLVED]

Post by gibbs1984 »

Hi,

I've installed Conky and configured the .conkyrc file to how I want it but the problems I have are that I can't get Conky to load from startup even though Ive added it to the Startup Applications and I also can't get it to stop flickering.

I've googled these problems and as far as I can tell the flickering is something to do with buffering and I've also attempted to create a startup shell but all to no avail.

Can someone give me an idiots guide as how to do these two things please.

Try to shutdown compiz if it's running and see if the flickering stops.
Is your .conkyrc in your home/YOUR_USERNAME/ folder?
Does conky start if start it from a terminal?

Here is the top part of my .conkyrc - doesn't flicker for me.

Code: Select all

# Set to zero to run forever.

Hi,

I've managed to stop the flickering by tweaking the following:

own_window yes
own_window_type override
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

# Use double buffering (reduces flicker, may not work for everyone)
double_buffer yes

Yes, the only way I can use Conky in by running it from the Terminal, which isn't a major problem but I'd rather it ran automatically from startup.

Start it by pressing Alt F2 and typing conky
Open session manager and make sure it's set to save current session.
Log out and log back in, then it should work.

Yep, cheers, looks like I was adding the wrong file to the Sessions, I was adding the .conkyrc file instead of the conky file in usr/bin.

Dipstick :D

Thanks though.
