Upgrading from the command line Mint 6 > Mint 7

Post by Spewbacca »

Hi All

Whilst following the "How to upgrade Mint 6 Felicia to Mint 7 Gloria
Written by Clem on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 @ 5:55 pm | Main Topics"
http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=861
...I've hit a snag after successfully completing steps 1-6, 7th step, not so well.
and wish for advice as how to proceed.

~ # apt install mint-meta-main
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mint-meta-main: Depends: mint-meta-gnome but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

Should I simply re-state as: apt install mint-meta-gnome mint-meta-main ?

TIA

hm... try to re-state, but I think that`s wont help you =\
I have the problem with upgrading too... backup all your data, and install fresh mint 7 :)

I`ve lost 5(!) hours to upgrading mint on my hp 2133, but it was not success

Re: Upgrading from the command line Mint 6 > Mint 7 <Solved?>

FWIW...
I resolved (solved?) my dilemma in a perhaps, chicken-hearted manner.
I decided to abandon the command line upgrade in favour of the GUI process.
After applying strict discipline and following Clem's GUI rule #3;
Follow the instructions. Choose the default options. Ignore errors (in particular GPG and gtk2-engines-aurora errors)
My MintBox has come through the 'process' relatively un-scathed (a completely functioning system).

Good Luck with yours!
